The ouroboros is an ancient symbol passed down through the ages, depicting a snake devouring its own tail. The symbol represents a cyclical process of growth and death: the snake feeds on its own flesh and blood, with the body growing through this destruction. The ever-regenerating flesh and blood become an endless source of sustenance. This symbol carries different symbolic meanings in various religions and mythologies - humans deriving power from beliefs and from animals, the animals occupying different roles in religion, though their symbolic meanings are all human projections.
The artist has cast her own body, the disjointed white torso reforming into a circle, supported by steel - replacing or becoming the great serpent that endlessly consumes itself, eternally growing through destruction. The scarred traces on the skin evoke the remnants of a ritual sacrifice. In this form, the artist fuses themselves with the symbol, aspiring to become a vessel for that power.
